I've personally been really skeptical of flavored lattes and coffee drinks. Do you really ever know what is in your cup?! Chemicals, artificial sugars and dyes, ick! One way to find out is to make it yourself!
I'm a big proponent on saving money to be healthier, because it IS possible people. If you make seemingly simple, smart and savvy choices, you could end up saving hundreds, even thousands of dollars on food alone a year!
First stop: coffee shop! Don't get me wrong, I occasionally indulge in a cappuccino, especially if I'm out for brunch with some of my girlfriends, but flavored coffee drinks and similar blended beverages can cost you an average of $4 each time you make a purchase. So let's say you buy coffee four days a week. That's $16 a week on just coffee! Then multiply that by by 52 weeks in a year, and you my friend have spent over $800.
Changing gears to nutrition, an average, medium-sized nonfat pumpkin spice latte packs around 300 calories and 50 grams of sugar! Holy Pumpkin... The part that should make you cringe is the added sugar! Something you can completely eliminate when you make it yourself.
My recipe calls for simple ingredients whose ratios you can change to your liking depending on your own individual tastes. I recommend adding the spices and stevia gradually as well.
I even surprised myself when I tried to make it because it tastes exactly like ones I have tried in coffee shops. Do me a favor and put some more homemade PSL in your life.
